Here are the challenges of basically understanding this vulnerability (or any other) exists:
1) First I check to see if it was fixed - in this case yes, they said it was in a specific version of the kernel & I have a later kernel version so I guess I'm good.
2) Next, I think, "ok, let's say the vulnerability was fixed but how do I know that I didn't already have some kind of exposure?? Like they've already put a backdoor on my computer?"
I'm not sure.

Which is perfect.
Only idiots "program" downloading crap from all over the Internet without checking. They deserve what's coming, they deserved log4j and deserved the removal of packages at the unquestionable judgment of the creator/maintainer.
Any "developer" who doesn't keep their own copy of dependecies and updates them manually when needed is a source of technical debt - and job security for the ones who get paid to fix their incompetence.
