I'm trying to learn and have a problem selecting an author from the combo box and pulling up that particular authors book info in a datagrid.
Can someone please help on the Selected Index changed to pull up info in
data grid. I can't bind them together.
Would appreciate so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Alex

I am trying to parse the quotation marks from a string that is returned from an inputbox and then "shell" to the console.
Here is my code.
Dim FileName As String = InputBox("Please enter the file name here")
Shell("c:\program files\d-tools\daemon.exe" & " -unmount 0 ")
Shell("c:\program files\d-tools\daemon.exe" & " -mount 0," & FileName)
End Sub
Just to clarify this is a console app.
Any help would be great!

I'm not sure what your looking for. What do you mean by parse? What is the end result supposed to look like?

The InputBox looks OK. If the user types (WITH quotes): "C:\Program Files\Stuff.txt", that exact string will be passed in the Shell statement. The 2nd shell command will look exactly like this:

c:\program files\d-tools\daemon.exe -mount 0,"C:\Program Files\Stuff.txt"<br />
If that's what you want passed to the Shell, then you don't have any problems...
BTW: What's with the '&' your using right after the daemon.exe? You don't need it there. Just to make the code a little more readable, you might want to take those out, but keep the one in front of 'FileName'.

My dumb mistake I was trying to mount the image without having the user type in the location.

In VB.Net it requires some sort of connector when writting a string. If you just type:
shell("c:\program files\d-tools\daemon.exe" "-unmount 0")
it will error out at "-unmount 0"
Therefore I put the "&" sign in.

OK. Why are you using two strings? Why not just use the one:

Set the form's BorderStyle to None. Show it at the beginning of the Form_Load event, and hide it in the Form_Show or Form_Activate event.

I had this problem once. I moved my code to another machine and it worked fine. In the end I reinstalled VB and all was fine. Also make sure you have all Services packs (for windows and VB).
I ask myself what did I do today? I don't like the answer!

I'm no expert when it comes to sockets, but I think you've got one problem. If you try to bind an EndPoint to a port that is already in use by another application, the bind will fail. You can't have two different apps listening on the same port.
What I think you'll have to do is capture the TCP/UDP traffic and filter out just the ports you need. And I have no idea how to do that...

Kinda tricky question - ADO is a BIG topic...
You can start with something like the code below (quick'n dirty) - remember to make a reference to some version of "Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects Library" or other in your project.

I have this OLE object supplied by a 3rd party software company. I use the code,C
Set obj = CreateObject("name.application"),
to run the code. This calls up the actual program, which includes a windows interface. By the companies own code, you are to use SendKeys to enter the username and password information in their login window, before the application will come up and you can then interact with the methods/properties of obj.
The problem I am having is that, while I can get this to run from a VB6 program or a VBS script, I cannot get this to run from an ASP page written in VBScript. A code segmet that I'm attempting to use is below:

HI Everybody,
I am a student in CIS and i have what may seem to be a dumb question but I was trying to build a database using Access and I was wanting to be able to enter a name and have the form compare that to the database and I have played around with code in the editor and I have no idea how to make that work. Any ideas??

It is not something difficult but it involves a few steps in doing so. Try get some VB books. They usually have the ADO and DAO which dedicate for this.
