It soulds like you might want something graphical to make it easy to use. I personally like to use dialog based applications for things like this. So what I would suggest is that you start an MFC project in visual Studio and make it dialog based. Then you can add the buttons and textboxes to do the searching for files, or folders and then have another button to start up your encryption program. That should probably be stored as a configuration setting in either the register or some external file, ini or xml. You should probably also put on the standard menu on the dialog and add things like options, and exit.

It might be simpler for you to have separate input sections on the dialog for text files, folders and freely entered text. This way itwill not confuse the person using the software.

I am trying to create some common controls on windows ce. This is what i am doing.

m_tooltip= new CToolTipCtrl();
m_tooltip->Create(this);
m_tooltip->AddTool(button1,"Test Button");
m_tooltip->Activate(TRUE);

this is a code snippet from OnInitDialog(). Ihave included the headers afxcmn.h and commctrl.h but i still get the following compile time errors. Anything else i need to include

error C2512: 'CToolTipCtrl' : no appropriate default constructor available
error C2027: use of undefined type 'CToolTipCtrl'd:\Program Files\Windows CE Tools\wce420\STANDARDSDK_420\mfc\include\afxstat_.h(337) : see declaration of 'CToolTipCtrl'
and more all related to the common controls.

Windows CE does not support CToolTipCtrl();

I have downloaded the Windows Media Player SDK but i still couldn't control it. I don't see any example about controlling WMP. It just has some examples and articles about embedding a WMP ActiveX. Could you tell me how to automate COM of WMP (like automate Office)?

hi all, i hope im posting under the right forum here. sorry if i an't.

im trying to create a EDIT (text box) control using createwindow but am having a few probs.

if i create the edit control and display it on the parent window all is ok. if i display the edit control with a child window the the parent all is ok as long as i don't give the child window the property WS_CAPTION.

if WS_CAPTION is not part of the child windows style all is ok, but if its added the edit control no longer works. Its displayed but you are unable to type in it.

any one any ideas plz ?
any help would be grate

Hi , i dont know if this is the right forum , but I have been coding in Visual C++. The work I do is extracting info from Embedded devices and depict it graphically . .NET seems to be the buzzword. Thanks to my ignorance , I really am not aware of the advantages of using it in my type of job .Is learning .NET really going to benefit me ? If yes is Visual C++.NET the path to follow or should I learn C# ?

I m sure someone can enlighten me on this

Overall, I always think that learning new things is worth the time and effort. It might not help you in the job that you have today, but it might help to get you a new job six months from now.

I used Visual C++.Net for a project in my last job. Overall, Managed C++ is not too bad, but for learning I would say to go with C# (or even VB.Net). The reason that I say that is that there are a few strange things here and there with Managed C++ that you will not see with using C#. I also was surprised with how many VB.Net jobs are available, that is why I included VB.Net as an alternative.

Ultimately, you should pick an language to learn because you have a desire to use the language or plan to in the future. I have done Java apps in the past, but am not really excited about learning Java as well as I know C++ or even C#. So time learning Java would probably be a waste for me.

And actually I was the person at my last job to champion the use of .Net for the project and it was a great success. We picked Managed C++ because of some of the other team members didn't know C# or .Net and we were trying to get them up to speed quickly. It worked really well for everyone until they cancelled the project. Frown | :(

And even for displaying the info that you get from the Embedded devices graphically, the gdiplus functionality in .Net has some very nice features that you might want to look at.

I want to make this thing: I got a big file with vector graphics, and i got my programm, that reads this file and draw everything. But now i need to create a web based application. What way to use??? Is it possible to read this file just once, and when user queries my page it just reads already, downloaded in memory, file. I think to use a COM server and ISAPI filter. So that page can download data from COM server through the ISAPI filter. Are there any easy way???

You must to build a COM DLL.
After that you can use it using vbscript.

I got an existing project, and i'd like to make from it a COM Server( add COM functionality), because i want another programm to get data from my first programm or to call some methods, how to make it??? I saw this ability in Borland C++ Builder, is it possible in Visual C++ with MFC???.

Create a toolbar and change the image size in the resource editor. You need to change it for the main toolbar resource not one of the buttons.

Hi!

I need to make a relative path, using 2 absolutes paths.

Assume
path1: C:\MyProjects\Tool\Tool.exe
path2: C:\MyProjects\Docs\MyDoc.txt

The output should be ..\Docs\MyDoc.txt

How do I create the relative path??

communicating with windows service

I have to write a windows service in VC++ 6 and need to make a web-based front end for viewing the current state and configuring the running service. What would be the best way to build a web-based front for a service? I am thinking of using sockets at the server and then a C# based front end because it is easy to do socket communication with it. Any suggestions?

As an experiment I was trying the following code:

Try this:

Use Ctrl+Left/Right to switch messages, Ctrl+Up/Down to switch threads, Ctrl+Shift+Left/Right to switch pages.
