Make a page with an open book background and

I'm a writer and want to have a picture of an open book for the background and then be able to have two sides that I can put excerpts for different stories on each page.

I can't find anything to show me how to do this.

What I have tried:

Three col but I can't seem to get the text in the right place and issues with the background image not lining up with the text. I'd love to create a free learn how to read website for kids using this format and for my own personal website. Any help would be great.
