My laptop [Lenovo G505S_Ubuntu 16.10] has a single input jack for headphone/mic. Is there a way to program my laptop to use that input jack only for mic purpose.

What I have tried:

Don't know where to start.
I am a newbie in Linux and don't have much of programming experience.
Would be great to start somewhere somepoint with help.

Solution 1

This is not software but hardware related.

You need an adapter that splits the connections from the combo jack into mic in and headset out. Search the web for "lenovo combo jack adaptor" or "combo jack y adapter". They are not available from Lenovo but from various suppliers.
