Getting a specific row from PHP table and selecting/modifying it HTML, PHP, mysql

Hey, guys! I am making a game where people earn points by completing set tasks. They can sign up and when they sign in, I want to show them a number of points they have. How would I accomplish This? making a variable and adding it to a row? Please help, if you have any questions please ask me!

What I have tried:

making points variable, but it affected everyone signed up, not just a specific user
