How to record data from serial port in android

I need to build the android app..
Which will record from electronic device(to record fault in the cable)...
They want the data to be written in file or display on screen live..
1. They want connectivity with serial port.
we can do that be by Serial port-USB-OTG(what i know).
Is there any thing else we can do for connectivity..
2. I got some app in internet..
its not recording data from the serial port..

***customer - not revealing about the device...
They want a serial port connection and recording the data from device..

sorry for yesterday's insufficient query...
i know this much sir..
Hopefull that i am clear today..

What I have tried:

I am new to android...
Please help me out ..
in any way you can...

android serial port - Google Search[^]. But you need to know the format of the data that will be coming from the device in order to display it on screen.

it ll be date and numbers from 0-8

and check my previous questions..
i am assuming from previous project..
which i have done in vb.net...

thank you...

there are some applications also
like USB OTG UART232 and Serial-USB..
But i want to do it to learn something on it sir..
