Copy Particular rectangle contents from a dialog

Hi,
I'm doing an application like paint. And I want to copy/cut
a particular rectangle area from the drawing surface. How can I do it.
The copying rectangle is choosen by the user. And I want to copy that
particular area and work on it. Please suggest a suitable way for me...

Do you want copy from one application to other or on same

The same would be much easier, but who would need is. The user reasonable expect exchange with global clipboard...
