"The Mother of All" :-)

1 solution

There is, unfortunately, no such thing.

Each language has it's strengths and weaknesses, same for databases.

If you are just beginning, then I would recommend C# as the language, and MsSql as the database.

Both are available in Express editions for free from the Microsoft website and are (relatively) simple to learn.

Isn't that obvious? Recommendations might be questionable, but it all depends. My 5.

Not to the OP!
Recommendations are always questionable since they depend on the recommenders prejudices. C# is well supported for beginners, free, and powerfull enough to do real work. I certainly wouldn't suggest C++ for a complete beginner (too complex), nor VB (too many idiots who can't actually program recommending bad practices). What would you suggest? :)

I basically agree. All your recommendations are reasonable, especially about the language. I'm not sure why MsSQL. Could by either Oracle or MySQL instead, I'm not the expert, but I think it more depends on the application, its requirements for scaleability and budget.

Oracle gets a fair amount of abuse, so I wouldn't suggest it for beginners. MySql is good, no doubt about it, but since you have to pay for decent tools now, MsSql is a better bet in my opinion. Access is ok for single user, but I prefer SqlCE for that anyway!
