Hi, here are some alternatives to Office Interop for DOCX files:
- OpenXML + FlowDocument
- Show Word file in WPF
 
Unfortunately there is no similar solution for DOC (a binary file format).
If you have a relatively small Word document then you can use this .NET Word component for free.
Here is a sample how to show document file in DocumentViewer: http://www.gemboxsoftware.com/SampleExplorer/Document/WPF/ExporttoXpsDocument_DocumentViewerControl[^]
