Surely you have written it down on a PostIt-note and stuck it on your screen? :-)

I don't understand: do you mean to say that password is recoverable (not resettable but recoverable)?! If it is so, it would majorly defeat the purpose of password.

I thought those links might help him recover in some way or the other. OP could also try the "Windows Authentication" mode instead of the "user-name" and password mode.

If not recover, he might have to create a new user then.

That would be right thing, or one of them. I'm still not sure if recovery of the password is possible. Do you know the answer?

It depends upon PC. I use Windows 7 and on using Windows Authentication mode, it didn't allow me to login. I started searching Google on the exception I got and finally did it. You have to "run it as administrator" and then login(I searched google for the solution) and then grant privileges to it by opening the Security\Logins in the Object Explorer of the Sql Server Management Studio. So now its working fine but its a tad tedious job and it freaked me out!
Google will help him for sure.
