I suggest you google for one of the Many "jquery" slideshows, there are many freely available and we don't know how you want yours to work. This will be quicker that developing one yourself, but of course you will miss out on the learning experience.
If one doesn't suit, most can be modified. Taking these things apart will help you learn jquery, so it is worthwhile looking at the internals of these things.
