how to apply the sitecolumn default value for previous data

Hi,

My Requirement is i have a document library,which has 10,000 records already i set content area to that lib,now i added one site column to that library. site column contains the default value which is same for all the documents in the library.
I want apply that default value to all the records in that library means to already existed and newly added records.

Can Any One Help me to achieve this in sharePoint 2010.

Solution 1

You should add the SiteColumn to the ContentType associated with the Document Library, otherwise you will need to add the value to each ListItem since they were created and stored prior to adding the SiteColumn to the list
