I have a program that saves data as a custom file type and I would like to utilize the Windows 7 preview pane in Windows Explorer. I have read the MSDN Preview Handler resource and a few other articles online, but have been left confused. Does this require a program to be written or only a change/addition of a registry value?

You need to write a handler that will generate the preview as described in this sample[^].
