Datalist Custom format according to data

Hello everyone,
in my project i am displaying data using datalist, i want give format of the datalist.in my table have three field, itemno,notificationno, itemname, and in this table may be many same notificationno, but i want to display same notificationno number in different style and another notification number in other style.
can you tell me how can i give the format of datalist, or what will be the query.
