I have written a windows form application with C#.Net using SMO for backup and restore the database. every now and then when I run the program I come across with this error message:
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Here is my connection string:
XML
<connectionStrings>
    <add name="PhoneBookEntities" connectionString="metadata=res://*/Model.csdl|res://*/Model.ssdl|res://*/Model.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;attachdbfilename=|DataDirectory|\PhoneBook.mdf;Pooling=true;Min Pool Size=1;integrated security=True;user instance=True;multipleactiveresultsets=True;App=EntityFramework"" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" />
  </connectionStrings>

and if I quit and run it again there will be no error and the application shows up normally. This problem sometimes occurs at the beginning of the program and sometimes it doesn't. What should I do?

Wow! It's almost an application source code!

1 solution

If you you get this occasionally, I take it that you have enabled the Named Pipes protocol.

In either case, I'd suggest using purely TCP/IP. Named pipes have some (sometimes unresolved) problems and MS discourages their usage. For example active devices in your network may prevent the communcations etc.

I enabled Named pipes after I encountered this error in order to get rid of that (using SQL Configuration Manager window). I also enabled TCP/IP. I have no idea weather this would solve the problem or not because it occurs occasionally and by now it have not. By the way if enabling either TCP/IP or Named pipes solves the problem, I want to do this in a programmatic manner so that after installing the program users are not have to change settings in SQL Configuration Manger. How can I do such thing?

You can use ServerProtocols[^] property and change IsEnabled property. Just remember to call Alter[^] in the end

can you give me a code example? I've got completely confused
