There are a number of ways you can optimize your site. Here is a great link with some paid and some free tools and how to use them:

Also, don't forget that part of optimization is how responsive the page appears to be. That means use of things like jQuery Ajax for faster results and smaller page loads (only partial page loads instead of full POSTs).
