These are unrelated concepts. A drop down menu is just javascript and it can run any script you like. Database code runs on the server, so if you want a menu option to fetch a record, without linking to a new page, then you need to make an AJAX call. Overall, I recommend buying a book on web development and reading it, so you know enough about the subject to ask a clear, meaningful question.
