I have removed the link to the YouTube video, since it doesn't add anything to your question, and it makes your question look like spam.

NB: Most YouTube tutorials aren't worth the paper they're printed on. :)

Are you waiting for the completion of the input before checking the value?

I think you may wish something more like an onblur event - check when the focus leaves the errant input item. If you check on oninput then every time there's input it would make the test and thus almost always fail (like every keystroke).

thanks for your solution ill give it a try,also, i have i dont wait for input to be completed, the error message shows up when i click on the text box and begin typing
WOW OK i just found the issue if anyone would like to hear: in my JS i essentially declare that valid inputs are errors (using .add instead of .remove in my collisteners) which results in the backwards behaviour i described
