how can i load a full ascx file into a custom user control

how can i, load a full .ascx file at runtime in order to change the look of a custom user control.

i saw information about changing the itemtemplate of controls by using page.loadtemplate but i have no idea about what property of the custom usercontrol to use.
is this posible.?
