Hi,
I am unable to install SQL Server Express 2008 on my machine so I have to use this forum to get the answers.

1) Can any body tell me if I can use SQl Server Express 2005 database files with 2008 or 2012?
2) What is the name of default instance of SQL Server 2008 and 2012, like it is SQLEXPRESS for 2005 version?

Thanks

Sure, you can. I did last month a migration for one of my customers that involved installing SQL Express 2012 and attaching a 2005 database to it. It worked without problem.

This should be SQLEXPRESS for 2008 and 2012 as well.
