third party controls like radcontrols are being used in the project. What is the use of them other than simplicity ?i am using vs 2008 version

RAD stands for rapid application design. Normally, that means pretend languages like VB6 so non programmers can make a form appear. Control libraries are a perfectly valid concept. Think about it. You'd like your control to do a ton of cool stuff, but you don't have the time to write it. OR, to put it another way: you could write it for yourself, which means all the dev time needs to be paid for by one client. Or a company can write these controls, sell them over and over, which means they are widely used, well tested, and sold for a fraction of the cost of paying an in house developer to write it.

I bought a PDF library recently. I had the PDF functionality I wanted in a morning, for less than the cost of my time to write it, which would have taken weeks to do.
