What sort of investigation have you done? Have you checked event viewer?
Does it give you an error when it closes unexpectedly?
Have you done all the updates to the product?
Have you tried doing a repair on the installation?
Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the application?

Probably, nobody. Partly because there just ins't enough information there to make a diagnosis of your problem, and partly because "unexpectedly" implies an intermittent fault, which are always the hardest to locate.

So what you need to do is be logical about it: When it closes, make a note of everything that is going on: what you did prior to the crash, what other applications you had running, what they were doing. Does anything else also crash, either at the same time, or "unexpectedly"? When doesn't it crash? Is it always when you look at a particular form, or option? Did it start after you installed a particular extension, or a different application?

Gather information: look for consistencies in the evidence, just like you would for a bug in your own code. When you have more information, you may see that it is a particular set of circumstances, or it may be truly random.

It may also be worth uninstalling VS completely, and reinstalling it.
