Does not seem reasonable. What exactly are you trying to achieve?

Under 99.9% of circumstances this is not possible. The exception is when the browser is IE, the user has deliberately changed the settings to allow ActiveX controls, and permitted your website to download, install and run an ActiveX control. The control can then do what it wants with or to the users machine - which is why they are IE specific, and disabled and difficult to do. Because there is too much risk associated with them.

There are two reasons why you cannot run an application from a browser under normal circumstances:
1) It is a major security risk, and can easily be exploited for malicious purposes. So there is no direct provision to do it.
2) The hardware the browser is running on is unknown to the website: it could be a Mac, a phone, a tablet, or an internet enabled fridge...it doesn't have to be a PC at all..
