how to invisible template field of a gridview not its header in asp.net

hi i have a table having 14 columns and i want to show 4 columns like EmpID,EmpName,Department,Salary
and EmpID column is a Template field so i want to make invisible the item template(i.e. link Button present in it) means a gridview with 4 columns but EmpID should remain Blank this will happen when i will click a button

plz help .......
