Visual C++ 5 and windows 8.1 compatibility

GoodMorning,

I upgraded my windows 8 to 8.1. I have Visual studio 5 installed.
With windows 8 it worked but now it crashes if i try to launch it.

Please someone knows if there is any setting to make it work like on windows 8??

I can i downgrade to windows 8??

Yes, I'm sure. This is the only version we have at work. I know it is old, but if my boss dosn't buy a new version, i have to try with this...

I doubt that you will get anywhere with that. Why not upgrade to the free Visual Studio Express version?

Just copy msdev.exe, paste with another name and execute it. Its a mistery but it works to me!!

I had the same problem, and at least it is a solution, Yours is 'change to a new version'??? What about 3rd party libs that can't compile??

I'm not too sure about Visual Studio 5. I used to work on Visual Studio 6, but it didn't even run on Windows 7 machines not to mention Windows 8. If you are using Visual Studio 2005, I strongly suggest you (a) either upgrade to a later version or (b) download the free express editions. Please do take note that the express editions are for personal use only - no commercial builds allowed. I'm currently running Visual Studio 2008, 2010 and 2012 on Windows 8.1.

As far as downgrading your OS, you cannot uninstall the 8.1 update (not from what I can see on my machine). You need to take into consideration that even though it is branded as the Windows 8.1 'Update', its actually a new OS shell. If you want to go back to 8, save all your data and re-install it.
