In Jquery set flag to true or false

Hi team,
i have the 2 button ADD button and Update button.
I want to set a flag so that when i save the userdetails(ie.Name,Lastname,role etc..) ,i need to find whether the userdetals come from excisting data that is from Update Button or it comes from ADD button that is new record..
So how i can recongnize the Data where it is coming from..Kindly Help.
