How check and solve the SQL server 2008 issues using Log files

I am hosting my website in a windows dedicated server. My database is SQL Server 2008. But sometime the database will stop running automatically. When we contact the service providers , they are telling like to check SQL log and windows event viewer as so many invalid login attempt at SQL Server and block suspected IP address which are making invalid login.
. I d't have any idea about the log files and i d't know to check it. how can i block the invalid logins..Plz provide me a solution

just protect your database or useridpassword table by password or anything else! it will work
