How to pause/stop an update

Hi, may i ask how can i pause/stop an update event from firing(which is button click) when it meet a certain criteria. For example, when a value is > 100, the update will not proceed. The program would stop. Is there any function like update.Pause() or update.Stop()?

p/s. --update would be the sql update into database(successful)
--pause/stop when the value to be updated(eg. number of days > 7), then the event would be
halted.

Nobody has any idea what you're talking about. Update of WHAT and HOW are you doing this update?? Without answering that simple question, you'll never get an answer to yours.
