Is there any way to connect with Sql Server 2008 using desktop Application not over the LAN?

For Example Application is installed on Client Computer internet connection is available what will be the connection string to connect with sql server.

Like Client computer A is in my home And Computer B is Server(Sql Server) which is in my office.

what kind of setting required on Server Side and Client side to establish connection?

You would need a VPN setup so that you can get direct access to it.
