.NET auto reporting Web application

Hi,
I am new to web technologies,
I am working on a project, a .NET web application which enable users to create/edit reports and to convert it to numeric formats. I am thinking about another functionality, an auto-reporting function which enable users to receive reports each day/week attached in mails. The problem is this kind of functionality can not be done in web based application because users can at any time close the browser ;P
I think about creating a windows service and installing it in the server. The windows service can run for long time even if the user is not connected.
I really need suggestions and even other solutions to implement the auto-reporting functionality.
