If you feel like putting way too much effort into this, take a look at the chromatic aberration and the demosaicing artifacts.

I'd say it's just poor image quality. And the angle is off and the pic isn't proportionate also. Not to mention, judging by the body language, I'd wager he already accepted his fate and subconsciously dropped his left shoulder a bit to expose his neck more.
He should've punched the knife guy in the nuts at least and go down fighting! But I'll save that for a different SB type post.

They should have been replaced with better quality engineered fixed seats years ago.
IMO, it is just a question of economies of scale.
The less parts a seat have the less it will have defects and the maintenance will be lower.
And with no reclining seats, the risk of having to turn around a plane will quite lower.
I'd rather be phishing!
