His trip wasn't really wasted, he got to know our nice little country, he had the opportunity to visit the new MAS[^] museum (today was the Royal Inauguration), he managed to get the certificate to its destination, and I trust he still will meet with Pete and enjoy the British beer and ladies Pete talked about.

I've made it as far as Ieper in my travels but definitely need to head back to Belgium to enjoy the countryside, your ridiculously good chocolates, riding on more pave than you can poke a stick at and your lethally smooth and tasty beer.

I fully agree, except for the beer which isn't lethal if you learn to cope early on and in moderation.
My grandparents used to live in the city of Ieper, except during WW1; the region wasn't safe then, I'm sure you know that as you have visited and probably have seen photo's of the devastations.

We went specifically to attend the sunset service and visit the war graves of our diggers. That little town had quite a lot of history pass through it.
I haven't worked out how "Belgium beer" and "moderation" go together. The beer beckons, it croons, it tells you lies about how you'll feel fine the next morning and will have no problem doing a 5hr ride through the alps.

Moderation is what you need to survive it all; you learn to enjoy it step by step, and the next morning should never be a problem (we have no curfew, and never had prohibition). There would be major problems if you're a tourist and feel a need to try and learn it all in one or a few nights, as we have a couple hundred different local beers, and some of them are, err, a little invasive.

Growing up in Australia meant we didn't have to suffer the binge-inducing curfew or prohibition. Curfews and high legal drinking ages seem to me to simply encourage a binge mentality.
We were in a tiny French village after an incredibly hot, exhausting, but amazing ride and asked the waitress to bring us something special, something tasty, something that would soothe our poor savaged bodies. She came out with a couple of delirium tremens[^]. They were beyond delicious. So we ordered a couple more. After 4hrs in the saddle, hungry and dehydrated. Needless to say we had trouble standing up after the second.
So of course we had no choice but to stay were we were and push on.

A nice one, but not the right way to recuperate. You should taste these, and others, when not tired, exhausted, sweaty and hungry; and probably not while sunbathing either. Start with something less complex, and lighter; enjoy the real stuff when you're at a physical equilibrium, have had a nice meal, and are ready to engage in some philosophical thoughts.

I voted 5 for this technical blog. When I voted, I left a message of "Neat tips" (or something like that) in the dialog that popped up. However, that message did not get posted to the forum at the bottom of the technical blog.
One theory: my first vote wasn't going through (showed that circular progress animation for about 30 seconds), so I clicked the permalink at the bottom to refresh the page. I then recast my vote (I made sure to enter "Neat tips" again) and it was cast instantly. Perhaps that first attempt made the vote go through, but the message never got through. Hence, my second attempt may have been ignored since my first vote may have already been cast.
Another theory: on my second attempt, I noticed the box disappear and pop up at some point and it caught my attention. I clicked the 5 radio button and moused in and out and may have closed then re-opened the textbox that popped up (I was testing what conditions caused it to pop up). Perhaps a boolean that is set when the textbox is closed does not change when it reopens.
EDIT: I just tried a third time with a new message. It showed up this time (link). That leads me to believe my second theory above is more likely than the first theory.
Third theory: the second attempt that apparently succeeded may have actually failed, but an error got swallowed so the UI went merrily along to inform me that it was successful.

Oddness today. I sure this has something to do with the coming apocalypse.
When submitting a comment via the popup, no check is made as to whether the popup was visible or not when the post was made. I think theory #1 could have been closer.
What time was it? I did an update around lunchtime (eastern time) that certainly would have caused excessive weirdness.
