I don't about your country dude, but in my country, getting quality domestic helpers is quite a pain. They steal some money out of the money you give them to buy groceries, they also steal stuff in your house and they get some of your clothes. My suggestion is that your home automation MUST be useful enough to take this pain out. First, I suggest you go C# and start connecting cameras throughout the house. Next, I suggest you have two transaction forms/ windows / pages: One recording the money you give your domestic helpers and the other for returning the money. The two transactions should be powerful enough to handle the money allocation, discrepancies, etc. and should include the reciept ID if possible. Furthermore, you could access the database of transactions from anywhere via the internet. Convert a computer to a server. I suggest you use C#'s ASP.Net for this. BTW, you should also be able to calculate the reputation / reliability of your domestic helpers.

Why dont you work on Augmented Reality. There is a company called Layar which has a AR browser which runs on IPhone and Android. You can webservice which will poll your database for results and pass it on to the Layar Browser. Then people using it can see your Points of Interest in their phones when they look for it. You can also bulid a separate DBMS to configure and manage your database. This should be a unique project.
