Joomla is a content management system written in php mysql. U can think of joomla as a portal engine to create portals. Asp.net is a server side scripting lamguage. We can create a joomla like cms using asp.net too umbraco is one. Joomla is for those who want basic boilerplate functioanity portal running without coding. Any cms is for that. Asp.net on the othr hand is serverside scriping lang tht can be used to create portqls with any functinality by writting code.
