Maximum length of array of char in VC++ 6.0?

My teacher says that VC++ 6.0 only realizes an array of maximum 256 chars. Is that right? If so, please tell me what is the solution for longer array?

A byte has 256 possible values. However, the maximum size of an array is NOT the size of a byte. Either you got confused, or your teacher is an incompetent moron.
