It’s clear that AI can and will have a big influence on how we develop software. "Same as the old boss"

O'Rielly said: ML and AI will require cross-functional teams; these teams need to encompass not only people with different kinds of expertise (security, privacy, compliance, ethics, design, and domain expertise), but also people from different social and cultural backgrounds So it's a thousand times cheaper and more efficient not to bother, then.

The 2019 AI Index report gives us a glimpse into AI progress It's not just *artificial* general intelligence that's still out of reach

Sounds like MI, i.e., Military Intelligence --- that is, in being out of reach.

Seattle is famous for its gridlock traffic, but Microsoft and Ford are hoping to solve it with a new approach using quantum computing techniques. If you think you understand Seattle traffic, you don't understand Seattle traffic?

I'd solve their gridlock problem easily: ban any car trip of 3 miles or less with no passengers and/or baggage, and give away free bicycles.
It'd save millions of taxpayers' money, be good for the environment, and help Frasier to lose all that unsightly fat.

Microsoft is tweaking its Windows logo and the icons for many of the operating system’s apps. Finally! (and now it's perfect)

These new icons will be in the next forced update.

Oh good. They hadn't announced a new icon in a couple of weeks, and I was starting to get worried.

Having worked for a good number of the world's larger corporations, I can confirm that this level of utter stupidity committed by idiots (who either believe or want to make others believe that they're doing a fantastic job) is perfectly normal.
The bigger problem is that the idiots always tend to be better versed in the ways of one-upmanship and backstabbing that those with genuine talent, so the idiocy breeds, like some evil bacterial culture in a petri dish, and all signs of real talent and ability die, coughing and bleeding.the verge said: We’ve known for a year that the software maker has been planning an icon overhaul Oh yes, I forgot to mention productivity.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has defended the existence of monopolies in business, saying "a monopoly by itself isn't bad if it's not abused." But put a hotel on Park Place and we will burn you to the ground

Yeah, until it is abused. Which always is the case. Much like a benevolent monarchy being the best form of government -- until it isn't.

They certainly seem to have monopoly on people who really can't afford to spend their money on luxury items buying expensive consumer electronics, when there are much cheaper alternatives.

That's like saying "Murderers aren't bad if they don't kill anyone".
It's illegal. Monopolies are not above the law.

As software developers, we routinely see happenings from our everyday lives make their way into our software, and “producer/consumer” problems are no exception. "There was fifty-seven channels and nothin' on"

Deepfakes, or media that takes a person in an existing image, audio recording, or video and replaces them with someone else’s likeness using AI algorithms, are multiplying quickly. If you make the problem, you have to fix it?
