Edit: Oops, realised lo wont grok XP, anyhoo...
I heard OO had been half dead for a while, adobe made some noises recently but not much happened.
Have you considered libreoffice? At least among linuxers libre's considered better.
I use it myself for light work on both linuk and miserable windors and does what I need.
(I'll admit as LO worked fine out of the box so I never got round to ever trying OO.)
- apart from the interface so far never seen any difference rendering or printing any doc/sheet created or received from elsewhere between lo & ms.
There's a full install and portable versions, easily fit both on a USB stick so either way you're covered at other sites.
Note: also threw ms interop out in favor of EPPlus - methods/info very much like ms office interop except 10000 X faster, again all results work, look & print same in both lo and miserable.
No I don't work for them,
hell, I barely do any work for myself except workin on my bicycle and sending invoices to clients.

Since Oracle (and even it passed it over to Apache), OpenOffice gone into a very slow development cycle (no version since December 2017)... You should go with LibreOffice (a fork actively maintained)...
You can download a msi installer and put in on USB to pass around...

For the purpose of my clients, we are interested only in something that works! Something that is Old and Proven! The fact that Open Office has not been updated recently counts as a Plus for us!

That's not even the gold plated version either.
I was talking to guy at work about this just a little while ago. This is likely the result of Amazon's automatic pricing. He has seen it do weird things to prices of the books he used to sell. He really likes this example. I once saw a calendar that I buy every year for less than $20 priced at $190.

This is definitely auto pricing at work. Here's something funny too : "arrives between Nov. 9 - Dec. 3" Over a month away?

At $4,423.62 I'd have to live 442 years to justify buying it.

And below:
There is a newer version of this item ($98.88)

Quote: New (1) from $4,423.62 & FREE shipping.
It might be worth it if the free shipping includes international shipping. Has anyone done the math?

At that price, I could fly business class from Israel to Amazon's warehouse, pick up the cheaper keyboard, and still be a couple of thousand dollars ahead!

You get this from time to time - I've seen HDMI leads priced at tens of thousands of pounds.
Some of it may be an input error, but I think most it is embezzlement / money laundering.

That prize is obviously a mistake of Amazon... It cost $130 at manufacturer's site...

Wow! that's the most expensive (cheap) item on amazon I've seen so far. I agree with some that this is either a money laundering scheme or an automation error. If it is in error, I would think that the seller would have it corrected in order to sell the item. What makes it suspicious on these items is that there is only one at that price.

I am itching to ditch my MacBook Pro and get a surface device and yet Microsoft still aren’t providing USB-C support.
The new devices look nice but seriously guys: the world is moving on. What a wasted opportunity.

Seriously, no USB-C? I thought that would be a minimum improvement.
After an initially impressive effort, they seem to have lost all momentum in advancing the capabilities of these devices...sad to see.

I totally agree. I would have bought one already if
1. They had USB-C. I have a monitor that doesn't accept anything but USB-C and now that I'm used to plugging in a single cable for power, USB and display, there's not much desire to go backwards
2. They fix that awful hinge (At least on the Surface book). A good device made ham-fisted.
Well, I guess I just cross my fingers and see what Apple has in store in a couple of weeks. Maybe that Macbook Air replacement[^] will do it - though they are going to need to avoid that awful keyboard they are using on the new MacBooks and the woeful USB-C display drivers before I lay down more cash.
cheers

Maybe they're waiting for USB-D.

The irony is that the MS Lumina 950XL WP which I bought to tide me over to the Surface Phone (good luck with that, eh?) has a USB-C port.

Seems every year, there is a news report about MS dropping the Surface line. Given that, I wouldn't buy one as who knows how long it will be really in support.
