Thanks for chiming in and letting me know.
It was a bit disconcerting.

Probably some innocuous password expiry rule, number of days, inactive too long...
Less likely they [suspect] they were hacked,
but on that knowing a lot of people use the same password everywhere perhaps they are forcing this because of other companies that did have data stolen.
Installing Signature...
Do not switch off your computer.

It could be some number of days expiry thing. Since I have a Kindle Fire I use my account every day.
Thanks for chiming in with possible ideas though. I appreciate it.

Ceri, who set up this JustGiving page[^] for her son Andrew after he lost everything in a fire, is an old friend of mine. I’ve known Andrew since he was born, and he’s an amazing kid (young man, now). He had a difficult childhood (with an abusive father) but has come through it and grown into a well-adjusted bloke determined to help others in similar situations, and has trained (and works) as a social worker.
There is absolutely no reason anyone here should want to contribute, but if you are feeling generous - any amount - your help would be appreciated. They could do with all the support they can get. Thanks.

That's why we pay for home insurance.

Well, indeed... the kid's young, just starting out, and not well-off. He'll learn - but I don't think he's the only young person to not prioritise insurance when they've just moved out from home and renting their first place - you have other things on your mind.

I pay for insurance because I hope/wish my house burns down. I'd get more that way than selling it.

Fire insurance over here (at least in the south) tends to be based on rebuilding and replacing the contents, which is considerably less than market value.

He could afford to live in Hampstead, and his mum wants joe public to buy him another flat?
Whose fault was the fire, his or someone elses? If they have insurance his loss will be covered, third party. If not sue them.
If its his fault, then its a lesson learned. And time to get out the tools and rebuild it.

It's rented, not owned. It was not his fault. He's just a kid, ffs.
As I said, no one is obliged to help. If you don't want t for whatever reason, that's OK and you prerogative. I'm not interested in hearing why though.

Ah, OK, so it is only his possessions.
So who started the fire? If it wasnt him he can claim on the insurance of the other person then.
But really, crowd funding to replace £1000 worth of stuff? A bit excessive isnt it?

Isn't insurance just a different kind of crowd funding - before vs after the event?

The MMA (MIDI Manufacturers Association) www.midi.org has been nagging me to donate $5/month. They count 42 paid subscribers with a fundraising goal of $25,000. They count (or once counted, many moons ago) Yamaha, Apple, Microsoft, and Roland among their members.
How fleeting is the glory of this world. One decade, an industry will make fortunes that the likes of Ray Kurzweil will retire on and be nuisances the rest of their natural lives. And a couple decades later, they'll be begging for chump change from hobbyist programmers with sweatshop jobs (the likes of me)!

Well, I cannot escape his name or building named after him as I live in Hannover, Germany.
But never searched why he was so important.
cheers,

That link doesn't go anywhere.
What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question?
The metaphorical solid rear-end expulsions have impacted the metaphorical motorized bladed rotating air movement mechanism.
Do questions with multiple question marks annoy you???

That's because the thread has been moved to the Soapbox

I think it's great. Take video. Take pictures. Publicize the hell out of it, and leave the government out of it. Then maybe the flat Earth conspiracies will go away and we can get back to going on with our lives.
As an aside, at least this dude is actually doing something about it. Gotta give him props for that.
