I always imagined you to be more of the passive type...slow to anger. Nice to see such colorful language around here, and to see you get really upset. refreshing.
Anyhow, I hope you get a resolution soon to your issues at hand. Cursing always helps me.

Errr...welcome to the real world of interfacing to third parties!
I still think my best one is when the two people, at the other company, that were supposed to validate that I was correctly using the interface were arguing about how their interface should work - with me in the middle.

Just started my drinking a few minutes ago in memory of my little sister who died from Melanoma 19 years ago to the minute I cracked my celebratory beer.

I decided this morning that it's time to shut down the WookieTab - I find Windows (and Chrome particularly) benefits from a restart every now and then, and it's been a couple of months I guess.
So I hit the Win key, Power, and ... "update and shutdown" Oh. Gawd. OK, connect to power first ... "update and shutdown"
"shutting down".
Walk away.
Notice a little later it's powered up.
"Win, Power, "update and shutdown". Again? OK ...
"shutting down".
Walk away.
It's powered up again.
Yes, you guessed, "update and shutdown" is there again ...
Third time lucky?
Well ... it shut down, anyway.
So I turn it back on.
"Getting windows ready" ... and it's been sitting at "100% complete" for five minutes ...
There are times when I think I should go back to Android: at least an update there is one operation.
What part of "100%" do Microsoft not understand?

"100%" is a virtual concept which is, mainly, overestimated.

Isn't it just?
It's now been sitting at "working on updates", "100% complete" for ten minutes.

I fully sympathize as I've been there a couple of times ; you never know when you will be able to use you computer again.
I noticed that sometimes, that's just the display which is "freezing", I already managed to get to login window by just pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del when the computer was displaying "100%". It does not work everytime, though, but maybe (I hope) that would do the trick for you?

Nope, it's done it itself - at long last.
It's just the frustration of saying "update and shutdown" which doesn't actually leave you shut down, and you have no idea when it will be possible to disconnect it from the mains!
Oh for 's sakes: Win key, Power, "shutdown" (without update, hoorah!)
"Task host window is stopping background tasks" - which Windows opened - and it reboots itself instead of shutting down like I asked it ...
Sometimes, banging your head on the desk it better than dealing with this...

Ok this is the last time now people.
Right click start, select run, type control. This will bring up control panel. If you don't see Administrative Tools, Select View By in upper right of the dialog and select Large or Small Icons.
Now Go: Administrative Tools ->Services, right click on the Windows Update Service and change the start up type to disabled.
Now restart one more time (You may have one or two more corruptdates in the cache to install) but after that, Peace.

So how do you keep your Windows machines up to date?
I'm asking this because I'm reminded of the countless stories of machines being infected because of exploits that got patched months prior. Or are you willfully ignoring these?
