I just found out that Outlook actually copies deleted contacts to the recycle bin, so I could retrieve most of them. (Why didn't I think about that first place *facepalm number 2*)
Anyway, it was maybe not a bad thing to press the "Reset all friends"

That's remarkably...helpful...for a Microsoft product!
Normally they just laugh and say "well, I did ask if you wanted to do that..."
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

Mmmhhh... There is no "restore" options, and moving them out of the recycle bin to the contact folder just created ... one contact containing all the deleted . I need to investigate that a bit further... I think Microsoft is just laughing and saying "Eh boy, you ignored the warnings, we saverd your b**t, but you will not go away with it that easily".

Ah. I see.

I'm using Outlook 2010, if I select all deleted contacts in the Mail | Deleted Items folder and right-click and select Move to Other Folder and select Contacts, it moves them individually as before.

Nagy, he said contacts, not friends, let's be realistic here!
Oops, my bad, I just read Quote: Reset all friends The list may have been empty, of course?

I can send you some new contacts. I get them in the mail every day.

Wow, talk about synchronicity!
We were just talking about Win '95!
You know, the version of Windows that introduced the recycle bin?
You probably haven't lost a thing.

Yep, indeed. I did not realize at first, since the recycle bin only appears in the eMail/Calendar view, so I assumed only mails and meetings were "recycled".
Anyway got back a good part of it, but I also just realized not everything get sync'ed properly, must be due to different contact data format.

I did that a few years back and lost 4 years worth of contacts on my google account.
Fortunately google now allows you to restore contacts, probably because lot's of people had done that.

Rage, I don't see the problem. Everyone should do this at least once a year and early January seems apposite.
If they are either real friends or important contacts, they'll be in touch.
Of course, there's a flaw in this plan: If everyone does it, they'll have lost your info too. Oh well, bummer!

Do you mean, we should then go to each-others' places and meet and drink some beers and have fun as it was done 15 years ago ? What an awful nightmare !

Actually, this speaks volumes to bad software design. At least Outlook saved the deleted stuff in the recycle bin (I read your "Saved" post) but the software on your phone should always, always, always make a backup of important data like contact information. If it can't make a backup, it should tell you. If you want to delete it permanently, it should ask you. This kind of stuff drives me nuts, because it's so simple to store deleted contacts in a recovery database on the phone.
It's a pity that the likes of Google and Microsoft and Apple can sue each other all day long for patent infringements, but we users can't sue them for their sh*tty software. Wouldn't that change the world, mwahaha!
