Two hours to go, the phone is silent, and I have a boring list of report formatting requests...time to break out the Bose QCs and rock out...starting with 'Diary of a Madman' then 'Blizzard of Ozz'! That should have me plenty amped up for quitting time! Happy weekend fellow coders!

Only about 45 minutes left for me. I'm cutting out a bit early today. It's been quite a long week. Happy weekend!

I got a new box yesterday. It has bells and whistles in abundance. It also has a 27" screen. Love it.
The rest of the developers have been displaying a little hardware envy.

I still have the 24" from the old machine but 27" looks huge.

Ah, well that is very cool.
Just because the code works, it doesn't mean that it is good code.

I'd add the 24 as well if I could - in portrait mode. I have 2 by 22", one landscape and one portrait, and the portrait one is perfect for browsing, because you can get a whole page (or often a whole article) on screen at once. The landscape is VS territory! And woe betide any app which tried to encroach...except Excel, of course...

Lucky you! I am starting to get the itch for something new...current system is a little over 5 years old, but still quite good. It's a good excuse for housekeeping. One of the objectives on the next build is to bring down the noise level. I'm also starting to consider a nice laptop instead of another tower. You can get a lot for your money these days.

Sweet, I just got a Dell XPS 15 about a month ago, and it's been an awesome development laptop. The 3200x1800 QHD touchscreen is amazing.
There are some nice 27" monitors out there. I've had my eye on [^] for my wife as she does a a lot of video editing. We just need to crank through some contracts to get some more money flowing in.

That is the only trivial nudge I have: the video is onboard so I can only get 1920X1080. I may have to buy my own video card to reclaim more screen real estate, sort of.

Well, now that you mention it, I visited the western US power administration operations center last week to see what they're using in the dispatch room. The entire grid is lit up on edge to edge Mitsubishi display units - LED, I assume - and updated in real time to show the status of every wire and switch and transformer and breaker in 9 states. The display is made up of edgeless plates, covering a wall 10' high and 60'+ wide. The operators have similar units mounted on hydraulic controls to move them up, down, forward and backward relative to the desk surface, which itself is hydraulically adjusted to be comfortable from a sitting or standing position. These individual desk displays are only 5' tall and about 8' wide, but the color and resolution is excellent. I'm just a tiny bit jealous...

Apple. Beautiful. Elephanting expensive. I can buy 3 or 4 laptops for the price of a decent Mac Book Pro or whatever they are called.

Depends. Look at the prices of many of the premium laptops and Ultrabooks and they are more expensive than the Macbook Air. The Macbook Pro, on the other hand, is definitely a little too Pricey.
I  the screen on my iMac though...

True enough. I'd love to get an Apple: I just can't justify the cost. Pity.

A friend of mine bought a 94 inch TV, many years ago. The first porn film he watched almost made him ill, he had to watch it from down the hall it was that gross.
