There was a Perseid meteor shower last week on the 12th. My idiot calendar says the 12th but what it should really say is 'the night of the 11th' and I missed it...again...saw one or two strays on the night of the 12th though.
Yeah, well you always hear these splashy descriptions like 80 meteors in an hour at the peak, but I have yet to ever see anything like that. 80% of the time it's overcast and you don't see anything anyway
Next year, I'm gonna mark the night before on the calendar, though
The US Surgeon General recanted claims that tobacco smoke is harmful, and encouraged states to nullify antismoking laws as soon as cigarette manufacturers change the glue they use to hold the papers together. That turned out to be the real culprit, amplified by the fact, recently discovered, that if one pokes a rat in the ass 30 times a day with any needle, it will get cancer just to make the researches happy and encourage them to go away.
but the amount of smoking they do compared to the US is a bit hard to tolerate.
I worked for a French company for 9 years and although the buildings were non-smoking, the managers all congregated just out side the back door to make any real decisions. I smoked a pipe back then, so when I was at the home office I'd join them. It was interesting to say the least!

Yeah, I had one guy come up to me and say $500 and not a penny more. You can wind up spending a couple of months on even a simple site if they don't know what they want and you have to flounder around trying different things so it was like fougeddabouddit.
Listen to the man. Unless it's a big project requiring some actual skill, the customer already has this mindset just as Ray describes. Just act like you don't "need" the work - here to help, nothing to see, move along, move along.
It just isn't worth the headache.

I was going to reply to that one - you literally took the words out of my mouth on that one - no need for redundancy
I had someone approach me once - they wanted a full blown accounting package very specific to their business. They were willing to pay no more than 300 for development - after all - they reasoned they could get an accounting package from a store for cheaper...
So I sent them to the store....
