It's one of many words that are commonly used in crosswords to indicate that (part of) the solution can be found by making an anagram of a portion of the clue. There are no real rules, it's more a question of reading the clue in different ways and using different meanings of words and phrases, not something that would come easily to those whose first language is not English.
.. little Johnny asked his father for a mountain bike for his birthday. Father says.. "your mum just lost her job and the mortgage on the house is $100000 , theres no way we can afford a bike." The next morning the father sees Johnny walking out the door with a suitcase and asks... "where are you going ?" Johnny told him.. "last night i heard you telling mom that you pulling out and she told you to wait because she's coming too. i'll be damned if im staying here by myself with a $100000 mortgage and no bike !"
Little Johnny's dog just had eleven puppies. Johnny's father says to his wife:
- What are we gonna do with eleven puppies ? I can give two or three to some friends, but ...
- Well ... there is always the river at the back of the garden...
- You mean ...?
- I'm afraid so.
On the same evening, Johnny's father goes with the eight remaining puppies to the river and starts his business.
Suddenly, Johnny shows up and see his father do, turns away crying and runs to his mom.
- I just saw Dad drowning all the puppies in the river.
- I know my son, but you know, eleven were so many, and ...
- It is not that, I would so have loved to drown them myself.
Yesterday I bought a couple of kangaroo steaks in the local store. Seeing that I live in Sweden, that's quite unusual, and frankly I don't have a clue what to do with them. A friend of mine jokingly suggested that I keep the lid on the frying pan to keep them from jumping out...
Then I thought: There are a quite lot of Bruces here (and some Sheilas?), maybe they can tell me...
So: Does anybody have a link for a good kangaroo recipe?
If they are steaks, you can just grill or fry them. We don't eat a lot of roo here, so we're not bursting with ideas. I've seen some different types of marinated roo. The most common roo I've had is roo patties, where you mince it and make burgers.
