Whatever your politics, this little girl has bigger balls than most men I've known. Good for her!
If she ever wants to move to the US, I'll sponsor her, and teach her to shoot. And anything else she wants to learn, since I'm fairly good at most things. But I'll be prouder still if she continues to carry on in her own country, standing for what is right. Good job, little lady!
I would not elephant with a person that learns to shoot an AK with a blindfold on!
In the air force, during basic training, about two weeks into sighted training on the R5, a very similar weapon to the AK, were we required to disassemble and reassemble the weapon blindfold. I was surprisingly good at that and regularly finished long before fellow troops.
Actually, I must admit that I haven't seen them personally, but I infer much from behavior. Perhaps I over-rate most men on that basis, but I have nothing but admiration for the young lady in the article.
It's the rare ones, like Malala, who set the standard for what a human being is capable of, in the face of what the most depraved human beings are capable of.
"We should totally focus the vision of the natural intelligence on the smallest and easiest things, and we should dwell on them for a long time, so long, until we have become accustomed to intuiting the truth distinctly and perspicuously."René Descartes
I imagine that the last thing in the world that she would want to be in contact
with is firearms.
She might very well feel the way you suggest. However she might also consider that being able to own, use, buy and sell guns to be the ultimate freedom. Pakistan ranks very high in the world in terms of gun ownership and given that many in the modern world would consider the rights of women less than ideal ownership might be something that one personally strives for.
But at any rate when positing what others feel one should at least take into acoount the possibility that a different culture could in fact lead to different emotional states.
Shooting a child for wanting an education. In the name of religion. It just baffles the mind.
It's great that she's survived and is able to tell her story but you can only imagine how many people suffer a similar fate daily and who's stories are never told.
I'm constantly reminded of how much of the world is so far from anything I've experienced or can comprehend. Makes me thankful that my children will grow up in the world I know and not some backward, sh*tty, hellhole surrounded by barbaric religious dogma.
I completely agree. As screwed up as this country has become, compared to the US I grew up in, it remains a far better place to grow up than most of the world. Yeah, it's going to get far worse before it gets better, but it's still not half bad.
Will Rogers never met me.
