According to a fellow kayaker who was reading the EA gauges, Dartmoor had 118cm in one hour over the weekend. The river Dart was nuts - I would guess 12 feet higher than when I would normally go paddle it.
My back fence* has been banging in the wind for a few weeks. A couple of days ago I noticed it was rock solid and no more banging.
I'm guessing a neighbour got annoyed enough to do something about it, proving my theory that if you ignore a problem for long enough eventually it will go away.
*The other side of the fence is a shared parking area, according to the deeds 3 other houses actually have shared responsibility for the fence, but I doubt any of them know it - at least two of them are rented.
