The Lounge is rated Safe For Work. If you're about to post something inappropriate for a shared office environment, then don't post it. No ads, no abuse, and no programming questions. Trolling, (political, climate, religious or whatever) will result in your account being removed.
I can think of a few automatable filters, maybe they dont apply here: New members posting immediately will be quarantined, pending human moderation. Same member posting rapidly in several threads (Yeah I know never happens in the Lounge). If they post something like a phone number: quarantine. Stuff like that.

It takes time to close a message - 5 votes - and more time to close an account - 10 votes (thanks to people who decided that if they didn't like a post in the lounge it was spam).
It takes 20 or 30 seconds to get to the member page and report it (more when the site is busy being flooded with spam) so even at best they have 5 minutes per account (or way more at the moment because there are so many of them posting they aren't getting reported quick enough). Since they seem to have the bot going and are posting a message every 5 seconds in QA alone, more accounts makes it worse.
Only staff have the Ban Hammer, not even us protectors can do that. And it's a good thing, because it does need oversight to prevent account closure by mistake, and we all make mistakes!
