It's Yiddish and descended in parallel from hochdeutsch- so the meanings somewhat the same. As I was given to understand the word, it's somewhat of a richer more diverse meaning. Explained by example rather than by definition. It makes more sense that way.
Example: Shcmukelah (any number of spellings) is, more or less, defined as a crude pejorative term "little penis". Somehow, though, when I was explained with conceptual examples, it was even usable in an endearing way as that was a potential implication. Very context sensitive language. Probably explains all the comedians with Jewish backgrounds. Comedy is context
There are some people who get along with everyone. Obviously, from my posts, you know I'm not one of them. But there are people who I don't get along with (and don't want to get along with). Unless one has some very special drugs, I don't think it's normal to get along with everyone - but what do I know.
Examples at work include a person who deliberate breaches my trust or are a predator of vulnerable employees. And, of course, the chronic liars. [Chronic idiots aren't included because, well, they're idiots]
