In any case: Noone should buy their daughter a car without watching Jeff Dunham (the Achmed The Dead Terrorist guy) and his story about when he bought his daughter a car. Unfortunately, I can find only the first half of it on YouTube (Jeff Dunham's Very Special Christmas Special[^]), and the really funny parts are those later on. If you can find someone with the entire show on DVD, or you can pick it up from some steaming service, it certainly worth its time!
"the debugger doesn't tell me anything because this code compiles just fine" - random QA comment
"Facebook is where you tell lies to your friends. Twitter is where you tell the truth to strangers." - chriselst
"I don't drink any more... then again, I don't drink any less." - Mike Mullikins uncle
Which leaves (new and) used car lots that provide one.
A 90 day warranty? Not that big of a help. Pay a couple thousand more for a cheap car to have a weak warranty and to deal with a used car salesman. Not for me. There's a reason the stereotype of used car salesman exists.
Social Media - A platform that makes it easier for the crazies to find each other.
Everyone is born right handed. Only the strongest overcome it.
Fight for left-handed rights and hand equality.
If a used car already has a problem, you'll find out within those 90 days. If you buy from a private seller and don't notice it immediately, you're SOL, given that most will sell it as is.
Pay a couple thousand more for a cheap car to have a weak warranty and to deal with a used car salesman
If you're paying "thousands more" buying from a used car dealer, then you're dealing with the wrong people.
There's a reason the stereotype of used car salesman exists.
There's stereotypes for every profession, including us software developers. Not all of them deserve it. I have an uncle who spent a good part of his life selling used cars, and most of his customers were repeat customers for a good reason. Not all of them are crooks.
No warranty, no sale. Which leaves (new and) used car lots that provide one.
... and financing
likely with all the new money being printed interest rates are low and inflation's gonna bite (so repayment $ will be cheaper.)
I know financing is a dirty word, but: for my daughter (or son) I'll pay extra $ to ensure safety, a good warranty and reliability In fact my own girl is studying o'seas right now and about to get a car - delayed only by covid
last things I want is:
- daughter [often] broken down in unfamiliar area any area
- getting suckered into [overpriced] repairs (coz needs to be done right now and cant reach me)
just coz I tried to save a few $
even less that she's a good day's plane ride away (not including time to organise a flight.)
I'd more likely be asking "who is a good / honest / reputable / warranty honouring dealer in the area where my daughter is. (in my case I've got family nearby, so a bit happier but I'm still asking those questions)
