The Lounge is rated Safe For Work. If you're about to post something inappropriate for a shared office environment, then don't post it. No ads, no abuse, and no programming questions. Trolling, (political, climate, religious or whatever) will result in your account being removed.
Cause like 99% of requirements are that kind of sh*tty boring stuff.
I'm on yet another annoying data migration project and the vast majority of the time is spent in meetings and following people up on when servers will be ready and that kind of thing.
I have an internship at a local office of UWV in the Netherlands (they pay benefit to the unemployed)
About 4 months ago they asked me to make a small database so they can track how long it takes for our doctors to handle a case, because the system they used now was crap, real crap.
Ignorant lil me did so, after using it for 4 months as test they liked it and told me they would keep using it.
No problem there.
Then they tell me they don't want to lose the 2 year of data they gather before they used my lil database.
So now here I am... fighting my way through over 2000 records.
There is no standard...
No 2 records look alike...
They just wrote stuff down they thought would be interesting...
With the tools I have here (the computers here are completely restricted, can’t even install a text editor) there is now way to automate it...
I’m not allowed to take it home so I can use my own tools, the information is too sensitive.
I'm slowly loosing my sanity with every record I read. (and I din't have that much too begin with)
only good think I got the look forward to is a new intern coming next week that I can dump this on and get back to some meaningful stuff (like lurking around the lounge every 10 min).
saru mo ki kara ochiru (even monkeys fall from trees)
Usualy i'm that monkey.
If you want an intelligent answer, Don't ask me.
To understand Recursion, you must first understand Recursion.
You could have converted 20 records in the time it took you to complain about it. You could probably have it done by Monday if you were committed to excellance (worked over the weekend).
The key is to excel. If you don't have the ambition, find another line of work.
Dumping it on a subordinate (especially a NEW subordinate that is unfmaliar with the system) is never the right thing to do.
